Instructions for Sara’s Glove Prototype #2

For prototype #2, we wanted to find out 1. if the glove was well fitting to Sara’s hand and 2. if the pen that is attached to the glove can assist Sara to write independently. We are still working on the electronics but we eventually hope to enable Sara to use the pen as a communicating tool. Using the pen like a mouse, we wanted to Sara to be able to write/draw on a iPad or on a computer screen.

Instruction for this glove is simple.

  1. Put on glove on her left, on thumb and the index finger.
  2. Secure the glove on by wrapping the bottom part of the glove around her wrist with the velcro.

Questions we are looking to get answers:

  1. Does the glove fit well for Sara? If not please feel free to mark/put on a pin to let us know where her fingers end on the glove.
  2. Is Sara able to write with the pen when it is attached to the glove? If not, how can we improve to help her write more independently?

Working with processing and accelerometer

Since we gathered the information that Sara’s finger movements were very limited, we decided to use a pen and put on an accelerometer on the tip of the pen  to visualise the date of the accelerometer on processing. Since we knew that Sara liked drawing and writing from her mom we wanted to give Sara a tool to be able to draw virtually with the pen and have that be shown on a screen.

Unfortunately none of us had a lot of experience with processing and we ran into a lot of technical difficulties. Due to the time we had we had to move away from the idea. But it’s an idea that we definitely like to revisit in the future.
